Sonoma wine country spin

STATS: 28 miles. 2 hours, 5 minutes.

A ride through wine country on the Russian river with Lillie. After breakfast with friends at a vacation rental, we spun into Healdsburg – taking in the rows of grapes, the warm summer breeze and deep blue skies along the way. We headed back along the river, which looked pristine and inviting from the bridge. We’d be jumping in soon enough!

Col Du Pantoll #2

STATS: 25.6 miles. 1 hour, 40 minutes.

This evening I rode my second Col Du Pantoll with Mike’s Bikes. Tonight’s ride was escorted by 3 California Highway Patrol officers – which protected the group of 40+ cyclists from traffic as we headed out of Sausalito.

I felt strong on the climbs tonight, which I’m betting was due to my climbing at altitude last weekend in Yosemite. Tonights ride solidified the feeling that I need to do more group rides – group rides challenge and motivate me to ride further, faster and harder than I would on my own.

As we rolled into Sausalito after chasing each other up and down the hilly coastline and Mt. Tam, cold beer, BBQ and corn were waiting for us in the parking lot.

Bike + dinner date!

10 miles roundtrip.

Tonight’s adventure: a bike ride to Fairfax for a date-night dinner with Lillie. Our first date was by bike when we met in LA – and we’re still biking together today!

Riding bikes to dinner is a great way to avoid traffic, enjoy the outdoors and work up an appetite after a long day. I love riding bikes with friends – it takes me back to my childhood, when I rode to school, work and play on the roads and trails in and around Mendocino.

When’s the last time you rode your bike around? Try it! You’ll feel at least half your age. And you’ll prove the old saying correct: you never forget how to ride a bicycle.
